Bishop's 1/30/2007 Letter to Congregation 02/09/2007
To the People of God who are St. Andrew’s-in-the-Pines Episcopal Church: Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. I am writing to you in advance of the upcoming congregational meeting of St. Andrew’s-in-the-Pines Episcopal Church. I understand that this meeting has been called by the Vestry to attempt to determine the future of St. Andrew’s affiliation with the Diocese of Atlanta and The Episcopal Church. Let me say at the onset that St. Andrew’s-in-the-Pines Episcopal Church will continue to be affiliated with the Diocese of Atlanta, although some of its members might choose to leave.

Cut Down That Tree! 10/02/2008
Once upon a time, some people who were fortunate enough to live near a beautiful lake decided to try to start a brand new church where they and others who visited the lake on weekends could offer worship in the manner they had grown to love. A little church-by-the-lake was born.

May 2006 Dove 05/06/2006
The Dove A Monthly Publication of  The Episcopal Church of the Holy Spirit May 2006   Web site: www.episcopalholyspirit.org   Rector's Column The Lord is Risen, the Lord is risen indeed. We’ve just concluded a wonderful, joyous Easter beginning. Everything went as planned, always a pleasant surprise, with wonderful liturgy, glorious music, strong attendance, children hunting eggs and all the signs of resurrection glory. During the 50 days of Easter, we continue the celebration of new and renewed life.  You’ll notice during the liturgy of this season that we don’t use the confession and absolution. It’s but one sign of the forgiveness of sins attained by Christ for our salvation.   And while it may appear insignificant during the Sunday morning worship, it is obviously vital for our eternal souls.  Thanks be to God! During the coming months, the Vestry and I are committed to supporting all of the ministries that serve our Lord, our parish and our community.  We are focusing on doing what we do best, emphasizing our strengths, and implementing programs that will improve our communications and other areas. Several programs are in need of volunteers. I pray that you will prayerfully consider where you can step up and become more involved with the ministries of our parish.    During May, we’ll continue our joyful ways with the Fish Fry and Boat Blessing and by welcoming back the Tallant family just as they end their second year in seminary and prepare for the last. So the traditions continue.  My job search is going slowly which is no surprise. But I continue to network, to engage the support of the Bishop’s office and to count myself fortunate on days when a “we hope your ministry will be successful, just not with us” letter doesn’t arrive. There are several parishes where I am in the question and answer stage and have had one phone interview.  So I ask for your prayers. Many thanks for all of the support and kind words you have given me.  May God be with us all, Mother Melanie †   Adult Education Happenings The Wednesday Forum resumed after Easter with a continuation of The Purpose Driven Church. The group has begun to look at the purposes outlined in Rick Warren’s book and discussing how they apply to ECOHS. The Forum is beginning to take a more proactive responsibility for their own contributions to the life of the parish and how they as individuals and as a group can make a difference in our corporate life. Come join us on Wednesday evenings for Communion, brown bag supper and program or just come for the discussion which begins at 7 P.M. The Sunday Morning Adult Class is continuing its overview of the Pastoral Offices from the Prayer Book. On Palm Sunday we discussed the Reconciliation of a Penitent, and we will follow that with the Ministration to the Sick and the Burial Office. We will also look at Marriage in the Episcopal Church as well as the requirements for those who have previously been married.Come Join Us for Holy's Spirit's Birthday Party, Annual Fish Fry & Boat Blessing and Greet the Tallant Family The Annual Fish Fry and Boat Blessing is almost here.  This annual event is also the time that we renew our commitment to Greg and Emily Tallant and their family while Greg is in seminary.  There will be pledge cards available at the Fish Fry and during the services that day.  There are always pledge cards available at either door to the sanctuary.  If you have any questions please don't hesitate to call Lauren Stewart (678-947-0408). Sunday, May 21, after the 10:45 service 2200 Lakeview Lane Bring chairs, blankets, towels, bathing suits, and a side dish to share. There’ll be all the fish, hushpuppies and cake you can eat  !!! Be sure to join us!!! One of our parish’s most wonderful events gives us opportunity to be together, visit with old friends and new,  watch the children, eat , and simply be at a beautiful site.  Help is needed to set up, cook and help with the event. We’ll all help clear at the end.  Please call the church office to volunteer or get directions. A Note from Greg Hi everybody!  Over my last two years of seminary our family has been supported in many ways by our parish family at Holy Spirit.  Along with the prayers, letters, visits, emails, and phone calls, you have also supported us with fundraisers at the last two boat blessing and fish fry parties.  Whether through one-time donations or pledges for the year, our lives have been made much less stressful through your generosity.  We’ll be there again this year for the party and look forward to seeing everyone again.  There are untold numbers of good places to give your money, but know that for the gifts we’ve received and any you might consider giving again we are very grateful.  Peace, Greg Tallant Children’s Education Wow!  What a wonderful turnout we had for our Easter Egg Hunt.  We also saw some new faces! Please welcome warmly anyone new and maybe just new to you.  The Heifer project was a success, with more than we have collected in the past years. We have a busy month in May.  We will open with our communion class on the morning of May 6th. We welcome any 1st through 3rd graders who have not yet been involved with a communion class. It will be a great morning for our children and their parents.  If you are interested please call me by April 30th. Sunday school will be coming to an end in May, our last Sunday will be Sunday May 21st.  We will have a year end party. That gives us just a few more weeks of Sunday school so please come and join us. We are planning our Vacation Bible School and it is going to be fantastic.  We are going to be using The Chronicles of Narnia to plan Bible School around. I think the children will love it so please put it on your calendar and let your neighbors know. The dates are June 19th through the 23rd.  Please watch the Dove and the bulletin for a supply list. Many of us may have things in our basements that we can use for props and costumes. Our next planning meeting will be May 8th at 5:00 in the parish hall. We need all the help we can get and all the creative ideas!! Carmen Smith Communications Many of you have noticed the changes the communications committee has made to the bulletin boards in the parish hall. (Please see the article below for more information.)We have also been working with the Diocese on a plan to transition our website to the Diocese' system and implement an electronic newsletter and a calendar of events.  In addition to serving the parish needs, we want to represent all the great things that we do at Holy Spirit to others who are looking for a church.  These system changes are designed to greatly help us improve both our internal and external communications.  To meet this goal, we need input from all of you, first to set up the systems and then to keep them current.   Please plan to attend a meeting on May 25th beginning at 7:00 PM in the parish hall.  The meeting will last approximately 2 hours.   We will share with you where the plan currently stands and welcome input on changes you may want.   Your ongoing input to our systems is very important to a successful communications plan, so please put this meeting on your calendar! We look forward to seeing you all there!  Janice Davis Newcomers Hi!  Are you looking for a ministry to serve at ECHOS?  Newcomer's Ministry would love to have you donate your time & talents to a wonderful ministry. Interested? Call Donna Kukarola, 770 887 7272 Webmaster Needed: Your communications committee is urgently seeking a webmaster for our website.  We are planning to change over to the Diocese's system which will provide much more flexibility and allow us to provide more timely information.  The Diocese will train us and help us get it up and running.  If you have this skill set and want to volunteer, please contact Janice Davis at 678-455-3177. Bulletin Boards You may have noticed that the bulletin boards in the parish hall and in the hallway have been rearranged and labeled.  The sign up sheets remain in the hallway, but there are significant changes in the parish hall.  If you have not already seen the changes, please take a few moments to look them over.  We tried to map the boards to the items currently on them, but since they were somewhat outdated, we may not have captured everything correctly.  We are also in the process of putting the contact information for the chairpersons on each of the boards.    Some folks have told us that they do not understand what each of ministry does.  It would be helpful if you could provide us with very brief synopsis of what your ministry does.  You can either send an e-mail to me and we will put it up on the bulletin boards, or you can place your own message on the boards .  We are asking that each of you appoint someone on your team to be responsible to keep your portion of the bulletin boards updated.  Please.....let us know what you think!    Our objective is to make it easier for everyone to find information.  The Communications Committee is looking for your constructive comments and feedback on the changes.   This is a work in progress.  You can give your comments to Judy Freeze on 770-993-2615, or please respond to this e-mail.   Thanks for your support with this.
