The Finance Department

 

The Department of Finance is responsible for the financial administration of diocesan operations. As set forth by the Council and Executive Board, the director and finance staff performs the accounting and clerical functions that enable and support all ministry and mission programs. The director also works with the parishes and organizations of the diocese providing resources and guidance in all matters of church business affairs. Some specific responsibilities include:

  1. The director is responsible for administering the work of the Diocesan Foundation Inc. The foundation lends up to $200,000 to churches in our diocese for new buildings, additions, renovations, parking lots and organs. The foundation also lends up to $25,000 to clergy for assistance with the down payment on purchasing a home.  
  2. The director also works with the Long-term Investment Committee, which is charged with the duty of overseeing the investment of the various trust funds held by our diocese and bishop. Limited funds are available for mission, repairs of mission properties, theological education scholarships and assistance for infirm and disabled ministers.
  3. The diocesan Department of Finance sponsors annual Parish Finance Workshops, focusing on standard accounting principles and reporting practices for parishes, tax reporting, parochial report preparation, employee benefits, and other topics. The department also sponsors workshops relating to church finances at the Annual Ministry Fair in March of each year.
