Reflection: Episcopal Youth Event provides renewal

by Hallie Wells

A participant in the 2008 Episcopal Youth Event reflects on the experience.

E.Y.E. (the Episcopal Youth Event held last week in San Antonio, Texas) was the most renewing experience I have had in a very long time.

The theme for the week was "Sown in the Heart of Christ" and followed the parable Jesus told about seeds being sown on different soils. We discussed how we could be rocky soil, paths, or good soil when the seed, the message of Christ, is given to us.

I'm leaving for college in a month and it was an excellent reminder to me that I need to be the good soil and listen to what Christ has for me throughout college. I've struggled through my faith, relationships that I have had, and who I am for the past year, and the theme for this week really helped renew and refresh my spirit.

I did two workshops at E.Y.E, one on art and spirituality and the other taught us a form of praying while you walk. I was excited to learn this way of praying because it really opened up new ideas and it gives me more opportunities to pray throughout the day.

There was a healing service one of the nights and it was really powerful. It helped bring our whole entire group together and support each other in the ways that we all needed. E.Y.E has introduced me to many things in the Episcopal Church like Episcopal Mission Exchange, campus ministry, and new friends.
